Jesus Lifted Up—A Love That Bears Our Need

Before the familiar declaration of God's love, Jesus explains a symbol from Israel's history: as Moses lifted up the bronze serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up. In that ancient account, people looked at the serpent and lived. Now, Jesus is the one lifted up—not because He deserved judgment, but to carry the guilt and curse of us all. On the cross, He bore shame and the full force of evil, standing in our place as our substitute. This is the heart of redemption: Christ takes what we cannot fix, endures what we cannot bear, and offers eternal healing to all who look to Him in faith. The cross reveals a love that enters our need, shares our suffering, and offers restoration—not abstract, but personal and costly. Look to Jesus, and know that His sacrifice opens the way for acceptance and life.

Key Takeaway

Jesus was lifted up in love to bear sin and open the way to life with God.
